Bayern Munich and Manchester City are set to face each other in a blockbuster Champions League quarter-final clash, with both teams aiming to reach the last four of the competition. The tie will also feature a fascinating duel between two of the best strikers in the world: Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland.
Lewandowski, who scored 55 goals in all competitions last season and helped Bayern win the treble, is currently sidelined with a knee injury and will miss both legs of the quarter-final. The Polish star is expected to return for the potential semi-final against Real Madrid, who are favourites to overcome Liverpool in the other quarter-final.
Haaland, on the other hand, is fit and firing for Manchester City, who signed him from Borussia Dortmund in January for a record-breaking fee of £150 million. The Norwegian sensation has scored 10 goals in six Champions League games this season, and has already netted 21 times in 23 appearances for his new club.
Both Lewandowski and Haaland are regarded as the best finishers in the game, and their respective teams will rely on their goalscoring prowess to advance to the next round. Bayern are the defending champions and have won their last seven games in the Champions League, while City are chasing their first ever European title and have won their last 14 games in all competitions.
The quarter-final tie will also pit two of the most successful managers in Europe against each other: Pep Guardiola and Hansi Flick. Guardiola, who won two Champions League trophies with Barcelona, is looking to end his 10-year drought in the competition and deliver City's maiden crown. Flick, who took over Bayern in November 2019, has transformed the team into a dominant force and has won six trophies in his first season in charge.
The first leg of the quarter-final will take place at the Allianz Arena in Munich on April 6, while the second leg will be played at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on April 14. The winner of the tie will face either Real Madrid or Liverpool in the semi-final, which will be held on April 27 and May 4.
